Traded it in for a dirt bike huh. Where do you this this bike spent its life to date? You can bet it wasn't on the hihgway.
I always advise people to not buy a used metric bike unless they want a project toy to putter around with. My own wife didn't heed my advice, and has been missing riding her Honda Rebel 450 for two years. We bought it used at a Harley dealership for $800. The parts guy needed money, Lisa loved the bike before she even rode/started it up, she wouldn't listen to me, so...
She got about 2000 miles out of it, the bike started cutting out under load with the engine warm, and then just died on her. Now she wants a new bike, not just new to her, but NEW!
Go for the 2000 model, you'll be happier with it than you would be fighting someone else's junk.
